Capezio Guest Blogger and newly qualified RAD Teacher Amie Brotherton recently launched an Artistic Contemporary, Jazz, Ballet and Commercial Dance Company called "Launch Dance Company". As well as being performance led, the company also offers educational workshops both in schools and in the community.
In today’s post, she tells us about the launch of LDC and their first performance as a company.

”In August 2012, ‘Launch Dance Company’ was founded by 6 dancers from Northamptonshire & Rutland, including myself. 11 months on, it was finally time for our debut performance!
After several months of dancing, rehearsing, perfecting and a lot of fun, we were prepared to put on a spectacular performance at the Uppingham Theatre and I was lucky enough to be one of these dancers.
As Saturday 20th July loomed closer, I was a mixed bag of excitement and anticipation. I love performing and no other feeling beats that moment when you’re on stage and lost in your own world of dance, but I was also slightly nervous; we had worked so hard for so long on a show we felt was fantastic and we really wanted to ensure everything would run smoothly and that we’d perform to the best of our ability for our debut. My last major performance was at the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony and I knew that this more intimate performance would feel completely different with the audience so close!
When it came to stepping out on stage, any nerves soon vanished and were replaced by that euphoric feeling of being on stage, lights shining down on you and the music playing. We first performed 3 dances from Jerome Robbins ‘Ballet in Sneakers’ which was a fast paced ballet-jazz fusion with an incredible Jazz score written by Robert Prince. Our second performance was a stripped back contemporary set named ‘Unravel’ choreographed collectively by the Launch Dance Company, using relationships and the feelings evolved from relationships as inspiration.
After our performance I felt utterly elated, we received great feedback from our audience and after celebrating in style with champagne we all collapsed into bed excited about plans for the future of LDC.”
The Capezio Team would like to wish the best of luck to Amie Brotherton, Amy Whearity, Francesca Wales, Kylie Hance, Olivia Beale and Theresa Manning in this new endeavour. Find out more about LDC and their latest news on http://launchdanceco.blogspot.co.uk/
